One of the Washington Capitals’ third-round draft picks in 2022 will spend another year overseas.

Ludwig Persson, who the Capitals selected 85th overall, will spend the 2023-24 season on loan with IPK of the second-tier Finnish Mestis league, the teams announced Wednesday.

“It’s really great that Washington and the player himself saw IPK as the best place to develop towards North American rinks this season,” Marko Tuomainen, the team’s head coach, said according to a DeepL-translation. “I’m looking forward to working with this talented young man. This loan deal is a win-win for IPK, the Washington Capitals and the player himself.”

Persson, a 19-year-old winger, tallied 15 points — four goals, 11 assists — with BIK Karlskoga of the second-tier Swedish HockeyAllsvenskan last season.
