Nicolas Aube-Kubel, as well as five others cut from Washington Capitals training camp Friday, have cleared waivers.

Along with Aube-Kubel, forwards Alex Limoges, Joe Snively and Michael Sgarbossa, defenseman Dylan McIlrath and goalie Hunter Shepard will report to the Hershey Bears, Washington’s AHL affiliate.

Additionally, the Capitals sent goalie Mitchell Gibson down to Hershey, bringing the team’s roster to 26 ahead of Saturday’s preseason finale.

The cut of Aube-Kubel, who played in 53 games with the Capitals last season, creates an unanticipated opportunity on the win, an opportunity likely to be claimed by one of those remaining in camp: Matthew Phillips, Aliaksei Protas, Beck Malenstyn or Ivan Miroshnichenko.
