It’s another night, another milestone for Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin, who broke an all-time record on the road while visiting the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday.

Ovechkin struck twice in the opening frame against the Canucks, moving him past Wayne Gretzky for the most road goals in NHL history. He now has 402 goals on the road and 793 total career strikes.

Just 5:35 minutes into the game, the Washington star got to the front of the net and chipped the puck past Spencer Martin to make it 1-0 for the Capitals. It marked Ovechkin’s 12th goal of the season, and Martin became the 165 different goalie he’s scored on.

Minutes later, Ovechkin struck again with his 13th goal of the season, rocketing home a one-timer off a pass from Anthony Mantha.

The Great 8 is now seven goals away from 800, nine from passing Gordie Howe for second and 102 from breaking Gretzky’s all-time NHL goals record. Ovechkin has four goals in his last four games.
