ARLINGTON, V.A. — The Washington Capitals have a video game club in the dressing room, but surprisingly, it doesn’t include a lot of NHL 23. Taking that into account, a lot of them have yet to see how they appear in the EA Sports franchise.

I took it upon myself to show them how they appear in the game, and there were mixed reviews from several players.

Anthony Mantha: 7/10

Mantha was pleased for the most part with his player model. He said the best thing they got right was his beard. It was the perfect length and color for the 27-year-old, whose three goals rank second on the team to open the season.

He gave it a 7/10.

Conor Sheary: 6.2/10

Sheary admitted that his player model didn’t really look too much like him. He took a bit of a gander of it, saying that maybe it could resemble him. However, without the jersey or indicator of No. 73, he wouldn’t know it was him.

He was the only one to add a decimal to his player model.

Marcus Johansson: 6/10

“Good looking guy.”

Johansson was a fan of his player model, saying that it looked pretty much like him with the hair color. He gave it a 6/10.

Garnet Hathaway: 10/10

Hathaway took one gander at his and said he wasn’t a big ratings guy, but gave it a 10/10. Nick Jensen responded with an “uncanny” — not sure if it was sarcastic or not. Perfect score from Hath, who was the one of two to rank his model as perfect.

Charlie Lindgren: 2/10

Lindgren’s player model is interesting. It features a faux hawk and stubble. Lindgren took one look at it and was taken aback.

“That’s horrible. That’s horrible. No, that’s not good. So… and that’s — that’s not my facial hair either,” he said.

“Let me see it,” Nic Dowd chimed in. “Looks more like [Nick Jensen] than Chuck.”

“It almost looks like, maybe Shears or something,” Lindgren said.

He shook his head.

“So clearly they haven’t… they didn’t dig deep on what I truly looked like. Like you never — No facial hair. They did me way wrong here. They didn’t do their research.”

Martin Fehervary: 6/10

Fehervary got a good kick out of his. He liked his player model, saying that they got the nose right. His lips are a little wider, according to him. The Slovak also noted that his eyes are blue; his player model has brown eyes.

He still gave it a 6/10.

Matt Irwin: 8/10 and 2/10

“I’m in the game?” Irwin asked, surprised.

Irwin didn’t know what to make of his player model. He said that they nailed his natural hair color and got his facial hair right, but they didn’t have his red hair or beard. Garnet Hathaway had no idea who it was, and Irwin said without the jersey he wouldn’t know it was him. Irwin also showed it to Trevor van Riemsdyk, Martin Fehervary and others.

“What do you think, Riemer?” he asked No. 57.

“Good looking guy,” TVR, who gave his player a 7/10, responded.

“Yeah, good-looking guy. 8/10 for looks, but that doesn’t look like me. They have bigger fish to fry, but not me.”

Connor McMichael: 10/10

McMichael was a big fan of how he turned out in the game.

“Perfect. 10/10,” he said.
