ARLINGTON — Washington Capitals Charlie Lindgren‘s Reverse Retro gear is still on the way, but he did get one piece of gear on Tuesday: his mask.

It was on display at Tuesday’s optional skate, as he took reps after capturing his first Capitals win over the New Jersey Devils.

“You can hold it!” he said, handing it to me.

It was heavy, featuring an intricate design that means a lot to him and Washington. The mask, designed by DaveArt, has his iconic “iceberg” design on top in copper on top of matte black. Little “Weagles” are painted on the mask, which also has an overlay of the vintage Capital building logo. On the chin is his nickname, Lindy, and on the back features one of his favorite quotes.

“I started wearing the Icebergs when I was a sophomore in high school,” he said, adding, “It’s just been a part of me.”

It ultimately became the inspiration for the new lid.

For the rest of his gear, Lindgren collaborated with his Bauer rep in Minnesota and chose from mockups, then consoled with family and friends complete the RR design. He said his dog approves of it, too.

“I picked [what] I want and kind of sent it off to people in my close circle and said, ‘Hey, what do you think? What do you think looks the best?’ So this one, it’s still going to be the Iceberg setup, but it’s going to be way different.”
