ARLINGTON, V.A. — The Washington Capitals have a handful of absences from Tuesday’s practice. The team announced that Joe Snively will not skate due to an upper-body injury. Meanwhile, Nicklas Backstrom, Evgeny Kuznetsov and Vitek Vanecek are not skating and are taking maintenance days.

Snively has three goals and four assists in 12 NHL appearances so far. The Herndon, V.A. native skated just 8:23 minutes in the Capitals’ 5-3 loss to the Maple Leafs on Tuesday, registering one shot through 12 shifts. He was skating on the third line with Lars Eller and Connor McMichael.

It is unclear what the exact injury is for the 26-year-old. Daniel Sprong will likely slot in for Snively if he is unable to play on Thursday against the Carolina Hurricanes.

Sprong has been a healthy scratch for four straight games and has just five goals and eight assists through 40 games this season.
