Capitals Recall Protas From Hershey, Sgarbossa, Alexeyev Among Re-Assignments

Just a couple of days after sending Aliaksei Protas down to Hershey, the Washington Capitals brought the center back up to D.C. Washington recalled Protas on Tuesday ahead of practice.

Meanwhile, Washington re-assigned Mike Sgarbossa and Pheonix Copley to the Bears, while also sending Alex Alexeyev and Lucas Johansen back to Hershey as well.

Vitek Vanecek and Martin Fehervary are back on the ice for practice. Nicklas Backstrom, T.J. Oshie and Connor McMichael are not skating due to non-COVID illneesses.

Protas played 22 games up at the NHL level this season, dishing two goals and four assists. He skated significant minutes on the first line and top-6, and also logged time on the power play.

Prior to puck drop on Sunday against the New Jersey Devils, the Capitals had returned Protas to the Bears.

“Everybody is available,” head coach Peter Laviolette said in regard to the lineup changes on Sunday. “I think it pushes guys to have to be on point in their game. And guys that are on point will stay in the lineup and they will continue to play.”
