The Washington Capitals will be without the services of Nic Dowd on Thursday against the Columbus Blue Jackets, as the forward did not make the trip to Columbus following the birth of his second child.

Dowd and his wife, Paige, welcomed daughter, Ruby, on Wednesday in D.C. Washington travelled to Ohio that same day.

The 33-year-old scored his 10th goal of the season back on Tuesday in the 5-4 overtime loss to the Buffalo Sabres. He also changed lines in that game, as he went to work with T.J. Oshie and Sonny Milano following several games working with Garnet Hathaway on the fourth line.

Dowd has already matched his goal total from last season and is on pace to establish a new career high in that category.

With Dowd out and Tom Wilson and Nicklas Backstrom still working toward their return, Nicolas Aube-Kubel will draw back into the mix, and Aliaksei Protas will shift to play center, per The Washington Post's Samantha Pell.
