ARLINGTON, V.A. — Martin Fehervary has been activated from the injured reserve and will return to the lineup for the Washington Capitals on New Year's Eve when they take on the Montreal Canadiens.

To make space for Fehervary, Washington sent Lucas Johansen down to the AHL's Hershey Bears. Based on rushes at Friday's practice, the Slovak blueliner will draw in on the third pairing alongside Matt Irwin.

Fehervary has missed the last 12 games with an upper-body injury he suffered back on Dec. 3 against the Calgary Flames following a hard hit along the boards from Milan Lucic.

Through 26 games this year, the 23-year-old has two goals and two assists, with both of those goals coming over the last three games he played. Gettign him back will be a boost as the Capitals continue to fill the void with John Carlson out "long-term" following a slapshot to the face. Alex Alexeyev, meanwhile, will be a healthy scratch and sit as the No. 7 defenseman.
