WASHINGTON — Washington Capitals forward Marcus Johansson exited Thursday's tilt against the Ottawa Senators late in the first period, but has returned for the second.

It is unclear what happened to the 32-year-old forward, who dressed and took shifts in the first. However, during a media timeout, he was talking to head athletic trainer Jason Serbus before exiting. Johansson played just four shifts in 2:44 minutes before leaving.

Alex Ovechkin and Anthony Mantha helped fill in for Johansson on the third-line left wing.

He did exit briefly during Friday's 4-1 win over the Winnipeg Jets after taking an awkward spill into the boards, but he finished that game. Meanwhile, he played on Tuesday and scored, and finished that game against the New York Rangers.
