Capitals forward Garnet Hathaway

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Washington Capitals are playing shorthanded, as forward Garnet Hathaway exited Game 6 against the Florida Panthers early.

Early in the third period, Hathaway took a cross-check from Ben Chariot in front of the net. He went down in a heap and was slow to get up, and the Capitals got a power play out of it. Hathaway remained on the bench but left for the dressing room shortly after.

With No. 21 out, Lars Eller has taken his place on the fourth line with Johan Larsson and Nic Dowd.

Hathaway picked up an assist earlier in the game on Dowd’s goal.

The 30-year-old would return later in the frame.
