Garnet Hathaway is already taking pages out of Brad Marchand's book, as the newest member of the Boston Bruins appears to have made his own upgrades to his equipment following his trade from the Washington Capitals using a can of spray paint.

Hathaway has been wearing TRUE Catalyst 9X gloves this season, and the Capitals' red, white and blue colors are now covered with a matte black coating.

On Friday morning, Garnet Hathaway made one last trip to MedStar Capitals Iceplex to pick up his gear and say goodbye to his Washington Capitals teammates before flying up to Vancouver to join the Boston Bruins for a Saturday night game with the Vancouver Canucks. When he joined the Bruins on Saturday morning, there was new gear and a new jersey waiting for him, but apparently, he didn't want to switch to new gloves just yet, hence the new paint job.

Besides, players are specific about their equipment, and gloves can take a couple of skates to break in. And with Hathaway having yet to pracitce with Boston, it's understandable that he'd want to play with his same mitts. For Hathaway, he did a solid job painting over most of it, though some red is still showing under that top player of paint.

The gloves drew attention on social media, but also appeared to impress his new linemates in Nick Foligno and Tomas Nosek.

Marchand, Hathaway's new teammate, had spraypainted his gloves for the Winter Classic.

Hathaway is making his Bruins debut along with Dmitry Orlov, who was part of that Capitals trade. Washington received Craig Smith and a number of draft picks in return.

For Hathaway, wearing the "Spoked B" was a longtime dream of his. He found out about the trade while walking with his family on Thursday prior to the Capitals' game against the Anaheim Ducks. Hathaway said it was hard to leave, but was excited to return close to where he grew up in Maine and play for a team with a lot of history.
