WASHINGTON, D.C. — Washington Capitals forward Garnet Hathaway will not lace ‘em up for Wednesday’s tilt against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The team announced that Hathaway will not play due to a non-COVID illness. It’s unclear who will replace him. He has recently been on the fourth line with Nic Dowd and Johan Larsson.

Hathaway last played on Sunday, picking up the Capitals’ lone goal in a 5-1 loss to the Minnesota Wild. It was his first goal in 16 games and tied him for a single-season career-high of 11 goals.

Washington faces Tampa at 7:30 p.m. ET.
