GOTTA SEE IT: Garnet Hathaway Flips Evander Kane Into Capitals Bench

cAPITALS FORWARD Garnet Hathaway and Eander Kane

The Washington Capitals needed something to spark them following a lackluster start against the Edmonton Oilers, and Garnet Hathaway got the message.

Hathaway upped the ante and leveled Evander Kane early in the second period, flipping Kane the Capitals bench. A bit of a scuffle broke out following the play, but it provided a much-needed wake-up call with Washington trailing 3-1.

Here’s the hit:

Kane and Hathaway were supposedly almost teammates. After reported interest from the Capitals, Kane agreed to a deal with the Oilers at the end of January. He has dealt with multiple allegations of abuse, assault and gambling over the last few seasons. And per The Hockey News, multiple Sharks expressed in their exit interviews last season that they do not want Kane on the team.

Hathaway, meanwhile, is having a strong year with Washington. He ranks sixth in the NHL with 149 hits so far. He has seven goals and 14 points through 41 games so far and is on pace to set a new career high in points (26).

The Capitals grinder, who was an impact player against Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins the night prior, also got his licks on the new best player in the world, Connor McDavid.
