WATCH: Gritty Escorts Capitals Fan Out Of Wells Fargo Center After Caps Steal Win

Gritty was not amused with a Capitals fan

The Washington Capitals closed out their two-game road swing with a much-needed 5-3 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers — and Gritty was not having it.

After John Carlson secured the win with an empty-net goal late, a Capitals fan sporting an Evgeny Kuznetsov sweater started celebrating the pending victory. Gritty took an immediate disliking to that. And in Gritty fashion, the orange mascot jokingly escorted the fan out of the section at Wells Fargo Center.

Washington had been trailing with under four minutes left in regulation. However, the fourth line and Garnet Hathaway provided late-game heroics, with Hathaway striking twice to give the Capitals a 4-3 lead with 1:12 to go. Carlson then fired home an empty-netter. Despite a lengthy review, the goal was good.

The Caps will be off for a week with their next game on Feb. 24 against the New York Rangers. Despite the win, Hathaway said the Capitals weren’t thrilled with their first two periods against the Flyers on Thursday.

“Up until the third, I think we weren’t happy with it,” Hathaway admitted. “We had a long talk in the locker room about what we had to do in the third to be able to be happy with it because we were on the verge of letting it slip away.”

With the win, Washington is now 28-15-9 (65). The Capitals are two points out of a tie for third in the Metro.
