WASHINGTON — Washington Capitals forward Evgeny Kuznetsov has left Saturday's game against the Montreal Canadiens after taking a stick from Joe Edmundson to the face.

Kuznetsov went down with just seconds left in the first period and stayed on the ice in visible pain. He received help from the athletic trainers and left with a towel over his face.

The 30-year-old picked up an assist on Erik Gustafsson's goal in the first 32 seconds of the game, and he now has points in five straight.

After the opening 20, Washington leads 2-0 on goals from Gustafsson and Garnet Hathaway. It remains to be seen if Kuznetsov will return.
