WASHINGTON — With the Washington Capitals getting John Carlson and Darcy Kuemper back in the mix, the team has re-assigned Zach Fucale and Gabriel Carlsson to the AHL's Hershey Bears.

Carlson is making his return three months to the day after he was struck with a Brenden Dillon one-timer that fractured his skull and severed his temporal artery. Kuemper, meanwhile, will start after sitting out the last two games with an upper-body injury.

Carlsson played in six games for Washington, collecting two assists and a +/- rating of minus-1. He mainly skated on the third pairing with Matt Irwin.

Fucale did not play during his time up with the big club, as Charlie Lindgren started both games with Kuemper out.

The Capitals host the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday. Puck drop is at 7 p.m. ET at Capital One Arena.
