Following the Montreal Canadiens' 9-2 loss to the Washington Capitals on New Year's Eve, the players' moms made their way down to the locker room to meet with their sons following the game. There, they ran into captain Alex Ovechkin — and got a group picture.

Ovechkin, who scored his 30th career hat trick in the win, had a mini meet and greet and took a photo with the Canadiens' moms following their son's loss to close out the annual "mom's trip." Hockey Le Magazine shared the photo on Facebook, courtesy of Manon Royer:

Ovechkin's hat trick moved him to 806 career goals, putting him within 89 of breaking Wayne Gretzky's all-time scoring record. The 37-year-old has enjoyed playing against Montreal over the course of his career and has 37 goals in 54 career games vs. the Canadiens. However, he insists it's not about the opponent.

"I just enjoy to play hockey," he said of his success against the Canadiens.

His performance also added to a historic month that earned him first-star honors from the NHL for the month of December.
