The day after opening the season with a loss, the Washington Capitals have made a roster move.

Aliaksei Protas, who was sent down to open up a roster spot Friday, has been recalled to the NHL club, the team announced Saturday. Goalie Clay Stevenson was demoted to Hershey in a corresponding move.

Stevenson, 24, was recalled Friday afternoon when it became clear that Darcy Kuemper, who’s wife gave birth late Thursday night, would be unable to play against the Penguins. He did not play in Friday’s 4-0 shutout loss, with Charlie Lindgren receiving the start.
