ARLINGTON, V.A. — The Washington Capitals have loaned Beck Malenstyn to the AHL’s Hershey Bears as he nears a return from a broken finger.

Malenstyn suffered the injury while blocking a shot on Nov. 1 against the Vegas Golden Knights. He then underwent surgery to repair the finger fracture.

The 24-year-old was having a strong showing while filling in for some of the injured forwards, finding chemistry on that fourth line alongside Nic Dowd and Garnet Hathaway. In five games before his injury, Malenstyn had a goal and assist and a +/- of plus-2 while racking up 15 hits and two blocks.

Now, he will get to continue his recovery with Hershey, who he had played just two games with so far this season. In 2021-22, Malenstyn had a career-high 10 goals and picked up six assists, along with 20 PIM.
