WASHINGTON — Washington Capitals forward Anthony Mantha has suffered an upper-body injury and will not return to Tuesday's tilt against the Detroit Red Wings.

The 6-5, 234-pound forward's last shift came at the 12:40 mark of the second period, where he played three shifts. He appeared to be skating somewhat slowly at times.

It is possible that Mantha was hurt on this play with 2:02 left in the first period, when he took a hard hit from Moritz Seider. However, he played after that, so it's unclear if that is the cause of the injury.

The 28-year-old has nine goals and 15 assists through 53 games so far this season and is a minus-7.
