WASHINGTON — The Washington Capitals will again have to wait and see if Alex Ovechkin is healthy enough to draw in, as he will be a game-time decision against the Buffalo Sabres.

Head coach Peter Laviolette said on Wednesday that Ovechkin's status is questionable.

Ovechkin missed Tuesday's 5-3 loss to the New York Rangers and has missed a total of six games this season, including one other due to a lower-body injury in late January and four following the death of his father, Mikhail, last month. Washington is 0-6-0 and has lost the last nine games overall without Ovechkin dating back to last season.

Through 62 games this season, Ovechkin has 36 goals and 26 assists. He is at 816 career goals and sits 79 away from breaking Wayne Gretzky's all-time record.

Sonny Milano, who also sat out Tuesday due to a non-COVID illness, will be out again.
