WASHINGTON — At the first media timeout duirng Thursday's tilt vs. the Dallas Stars, Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin was honored with a lengthy jumbotron tribute for hitting 800 goals back on Tuesday.

Here's the tribute:

Ovechkin received a standing ovation from the crowd, who was starting an "Ovi" chant well before puck drop as he was announced as a starter. He waved to fans from the bench for their support.

Ovechkin hit the mark with a hat trick in a 7-3 win over the Chicago Blackhawks.

The tribute got sweeter as his son, Sergei, flipped Ovechkin's goal counter at Capital One Arena to 800. The sweet moment had Ovechkin smiling on the bench.

The 37-year-old can tie Gordie Howe with a goal and is two goals shy of passing him for second on the NHL's all-time goals list. However, he's keeping calm and taking things one step at a time as he continues his climb.
