Capitals coach Peter Laviolette

Peter Laviolette, well-traveled across the NHL, appears to have found his newest home.

According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, the 58-year-old former ex-Capitals coach is “looking like” the New York Rangers’ next head coach. It would be his second stop in New York, having first coached the Islanders from 2001-03.

Laviolette and the Capitals parted ways after a three-year stint in Washington, one that ended with the team’s first missed playoff appearance since 2014.

In his NHL head coaching career, Laviolette has a career record of 752-503-25-150. He’s also had coaching stints with the Nashville Predators, Philadelphia Flyers and Carolina Hurricanes.

Jared Serre covers the Washington Capitals for Washington Hockey Now. He is a graduate of West Virginia University.
