The Washington Capitals shook up their roster on Thursday and indicated the route they could be going with the 2023 NHL Trade Deadline around the corner, sending Dmitry Orlov and Garnet Hathaway to the Boston Bruins for draft picks. And now, they're potentially in on a big name going into the final stretch: Jakob Chychrun.

Per TSN's Darren Dreger, Washington has shown interest in the Arizona Coyotes defenseman and have draft capital and assets to pull it off. Chychrun is a top-pairing left-handed shot and has 28 points in 36 appearances so far. His name has been circulated throughout the league, and he has been held out for trade-related reasons.

"It's clear the Capitals are hoping to reset on the fly," Dreger wrote. "Jake Chychrun is a player for interest for Washington. Including the [first-round pick] acquired from Boston, the Caps have the pick currency to make it work."

With Washington trading Orlov and still missing John Carlson, they need to fill the void with a player like Chychrun, who moves the puck well, has a great point shot, can quarterback a power play and play well in his own end. The 6-2, 220-pound blueliner also brings size and speed to the lineup and can log heavy minutes, block shots and battle hard for the puck.

Chychrun, 24, has two seasons left on his contract after this year, and he has a $4.6 million cap hit. It would be a solid acquisition for Washington, who still has a chance at making the playoffs and sits just two points out of playoff position.
