One year in the Washington Capitals organization is it for Gabriel Carlsson.

The defenseman, who spent most of the last season with the Hershey Bears, has signed a three-year deal with Växjö Lakers HC in Sweden, the team announced Friday.

“We have talked to Gabriel for quite some time and felt that this is a player and person we would very much like to have in the team,” said general manager Henrik Evertsson, according to a DeepL translation. “When the last pieces fell into place, it went very quickly,”

In 59 games with the Bears last season, Carlsson ranked fourth among the team’s defensemen with 15 points — one goal and 14 assists. He played in six games for the Capitals, tallying two assists.

A first-round draft pick of the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2015, Carlsson spent six years in the organization before signing with the Capitals last offseason.
