The Washington Capitals’ top six has taken a hit.

Connor Brown, who the Capitals acquired prior to last season, will sign a one-year, $4 million contract with the Edmonton Oilers, according to multiple reports — reuniting with Connor McDavid, his former teammate with the OHL’s Erie Otters.

The contract has a base salary of $775,000, with up to $3.25 million in potential bonuses, according to Sportsnet‘s Jeff Marek.

Brown only played four games with the Capitals last season before tearing his ACL. His return would have been a welcome addition to Washington, who is focusing on improving the team’s top six.

Prior to joining Washington, Brown spent three seasons with the Ottawa Senators. During the 2021-22 season, he tallied 39 points — 10 goals, 29 assists — in 64 games.
