Gearing up for his 19th NHL season, captain Alex Ovechkin joined the Washington Capitals’ informal skate Tuesday at the team’s practice facility.

Ovechkin was part of a “big group” at MedStar Capitals Iceplex, according to The Athletic’s Tarik El-Bashir, including Evgeny Kuznetsov, Nicklas Backstom and John Carlson.

The 37-year-old, who holds franchise records in games played, points and assists, is 72 goals away from tying the NHL’s all-time goals scored record currently held by Wayne Gretzky.

Capitals training camp is schedule to begin on Sept. 21.
