The Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins saw an unlikely occurrence take place on Friday, as longtime rivals Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby team up for the Breakaway Challenge at the NHL All-Star Skills Competition. And also joining the party: Ovechkin's son, Sergei, dubbed "Ovi Jr."

It was exactly what viewers were expecting: an epic affair, as both had something great planned out.

The performance started with Ovechkin and Crosby discussing their rivalry with P.K. Subban, who then asked for their autographs on the Eastern Conference All-Star jersey. After signing it, Crosby decided that there needed to be one more signature on the jersey, and Ovechkin then signalled for his son, Sergei, to come out onto the ice and compete in the challenge with them.

Sergei led the way in a 3-on-0 breakaway with Ovechkin and Crosby. Ovechkin gave it to Crosby, who passed it to Sergei, who tapped it to his dad. Sergei banged his stick on the ice for the final pass from Ovechkin. Ovi Jr. then scored on a backhand shot that went five-hole past Roberto Luongo.

They got all 10s from the judges, making them the unanimous winners of the challenge.

“Obviously, we battled against each other for a long time so to have an experience like this, share the ice together, be on the same time, share it with his son, it’s a lot of fun," Crosby told Subban at center ice.

“We always have fun, we always play for our fans. Obviously it’s a great battle between me and Sid and Caps and Pens org. It’s great for hockey," Ovechkin added.
