Capitals Release Schedule For 2022-23 Season; Key Games To Watch

The Washington Capitals 82-game campaign is set as the NHL released each team’s 2022-23 schedule on Wednesday ahead of the 2022 NHL Draft.

Here are some key dates to watch:

SEASON OPENER: CAPITALS VS. BRUINS

Washington will open the season at home, taking on the Boston Bruins on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. ET After that, they will play their first road game of the 2022-23 campaign in Toronto when they take on the Maple Leafs at 7:30 p.m. the next day.

RIVALRY RENEWED: CAPITALS VS. PENGUINS

The Capitals will play the rival Pittsburgh Penguins three times in the regular season. Washington will host Pittsburgh at Capital One Arena on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 7:30 p.m. ET.

It’ll be a bit before the Capitals see the Penguins again, next facing them at home on Thursday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. ET. Washington will make one stop at PPG Paints Arena in 2022-23, visiting Pittsburgh on Saturday, March 25 at 8 p.m. ET.

REVENGE TOUR: CAPITALS VS. PANTHERS

The Capitals will get their first rematch with the Florida Panthers after a first-round exit in May on Tuesday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m., which will mark their return to Sunrise. They won’t see Florida again until Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. ET, when they welcome the Panthers to Capital One Arena. Washington will host Florida one last time on Saturday, April 8 at 7 p.m. ET.

A VISIT FROM THE CHAMPIONS: CAPITALS VS. AVALANCHE

The Capitals will host the Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. ET. They will then head to Colorado and face the Avalanche on Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 9 p.m. ET.

BABY, IT’S COLD OUTSIDE: STADIUM SERIES, CAPITALS VS. HURRICANES

Washington will head outdoors for the 2022 Stadium Series against the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 8 p.m. ET at NC State’s Carter-Finlay Stadium in Raleigh, North Carolina.

OUT TO SEA: CAPITALS VS. KRAKEN

T.J. Oshie and Washington again get two games against the Seattle Kraken, one home and one away. Oshie will visit his home state on Dec. 1 at 10 p.m. ET. The game will be the third of a six-game road swing that kicks off on Saturday, Nov. 26 and includes three stops in Canada before the team returns home to host the Kraken on Friday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. ET.

SEASON FINALE: CAPITALS VS. DEVILS

Washington will end the regular season on Thursday, April 13, taking on the New Jersey Devils at Capital One Arena at 7 p.m. ET. Considering the regular-season schedule, the playoffs appear likely start in mid-April, something we haven’t seen since 2019 pre-COVID.
