Fehervary Exits Capitals-Penguins After High Hit To Head From McGinn

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Washington Capitals saw Martin Fehervary exit Friday’s game with the Pittsburgh Penguins following a high hit from Brock McGinn.

Fehervary was in the offensive zone and passing the puck when McGinn’s charged in and appeared to make contact with his head. The referees discussed the play. There was ultimately no penalty on the play. Fehervary stayed down on the ice and was attended to by the trainer. He eventually got up and headed straight down the tunnel.

No. 42 did not return and has an upper-body injury, per the Capitals.

It is unclear whether or not the Capitals rookie will return at this time, or how severe the injury is. In the meantime,  Dmitry Orlov is filling in for Fehervary on the top pairing with John Carlson.

Regardless, it’s a major loss for the Capitals. Fehervary has been one of their top defensemen this season, as the 22-year-old rookie has exceeded expectations as a top-pairing defenseman. He averages 19:08 minutes per game and has two goals and five points through 26 games. The Slovak blueliner is also a plus-8 and leads Washington in blocks (42) while ranking third in his (71).
