The Washington Capitals Reverse Retro 2.0 uniform is finally here, and it’s a sight to behold.

Adidas and the NHL released all 32 Reverse Retro 2.0 sweaters for the 2022-23 season, paying homage to the team’s past and present. For Washington, that’s the “Screaming Eagle” reimagined.

The Capitals’ new uniforms feature the vintage screaming eagle logo with the “Capitals” wordmark at the bottom in the classic front. Washington’s vintage Capital building logo is on the shoulders. The captain’s letter and Caesar Sportsbook ad will be on the right side, and the NHL shield on the neck will be orange, a tribute to the classic league logo. Inside the neck is “WSH” and “2005,” an ode to Alex Ovechkin’s rookie year. Names and numbers on the sweaters will be in the same classic Capitals font.

Here it is, via The Washington Capitals:

Washington will wear these Capitals throwbacks for the following home games:

Nov. 5 vs. Arizona Coyotes

Nov. 25 vs. Calgary Flames

Dec. 9 vs. Seattle Kraken

Dec. 23 vs. Winnipeg Jets

Dec. 31 vs. Montreal Canadiens

Jan. 3 vs. Buffalo Sabres

Jan. 14 vs. Philadelphia Flyers

Fans can purchase these jerseys starting on Nov. 15 either online at shop.nhl.com or in the team stores at MedStar Capitals Iceplex and Capital One Arena.

Washington’s screaming eagle logo dates back to 1995. The Capitals wore this logo from 1995 to 2007 before rebranding to the current logo and red, white and blue sweaters. However, the team wore it with navy blue and white jerseys, never black. The jerseys with the Captial building were black. This is also a tribute to the first jersey that Ovechkin wore with the club when he first came on to the NHL scene in 2005.

Washington will also incorporate the black, copper and blue into their other gear. The pants, helmet, gloves and socks will be black, with the gloves having white font with a blue outline and the pants featuring the three stars in bronze.

In addition, the goalies will have custom gear; Darcy Kuemper has a new mask, blocker, glove and pads for the Reverse Retro look. The mask is matte black with the eagle on top and his “35” on the chin in the old style font. His blocker, gloves and pads are bronze with black/blue mixed in. Kuemper worked with DaveArt and Vaughn on the mockups.

Charlie Lindgren‘s gear is currently at the league office. WHN has gotten a description of the gear, but wants Lindgren to have the chance to reveal them himself. He did say that his dog approves of the design, though, and he coordinated with his Bauer rep in Minnesota to design the gear. His mask is also courtesy of DaveArt.
