WASHINGTON, D.C. — It was a lively night at the Stars & Spirits Alumni Event on Friday in the District, as the Washington Capitals alum mingled with current players and fans while raising money through a silent and live auction.

One of the items up for bidding was the famous “Vikings” shield from last season. The shield was around for the entirety of the 2021-22 campaign and, after victories, awarded to the defensive player of the game, while an axe — which was not up for auction — went to the offensive player of the game. At the auction, that player-used shield was also signed by the Capitals.

At the end of the night, the shield went for $5,000.

The festivities are all a part of the Washington Capitals Alumni Association Weekend. Participating alumni included: Karl Alzner, Peter Bondra, Sergei Gonchar, Alan Hangsleben, Brent Johnson, Dmitri Khristich, Olie Kolzig, Nick Kypreos, Yvon Labre, Rod Langway, Craig Laughlin, Dennis Maruk, Alan May, Kelly Miller, Paul Mulvey, Andrei Nikolishin, Steve Oleksy, Errol Rausse, Bill Riley, Ken Sabourin and Richard Zednik.
