WASHINGTON, D.C. — With the 2022 NHL Trade Deadline less than 24 hours away, the Washington Capitals made a transaction to clear some cap space, placing defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk on the injured reserve.

TVR suffered a lower-body injury in the Capitals’ 4-3 shootout victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday. He is eligible to return on March 26, when Washington hosts the Devils. So, he will miss the team’s next three games.

Through 58 games this season, the 30-year-old blueliner has one goal and 13 assists and an even plus/minus rating.

The move comes ahead of the trade deadline. Washington is reportedly looking to add a forward and is also monitoring the goaltending market.

Along with TVR, Dowd was also hurt in Friday’s win and is day-to-day. T.J. Oshie is listed as day-to-day as well. However, van Riemsdyk is the only player going on the IR at this time. He joins Carl Hagelin, who is on the LTIR with a “serious” eye injury, and Joe Snively, who is week-to-week following wrist surgery.
