Capitals Cut 22 More Players From Training Camp Roster

ARLINGTON, V.A. — With October approaching and the AHL’s Hershey Bears training camp set to open in the coming days, the Washington Capitals made more cuts on Friday, assigning 18 players and placing four on waivers.

The Capitals loaned Garin Bjorklund and Henrik Rybinski to Hershey. Washington also sent Sam Anas, Logan Day, Ethen Frank, Shane Gersich, Martin Has, Bear Hughes, Kale Kessy, Peter Laviolette III, Benton Maass, Jake Massie, Mason Morelli, Julian Napravnik, Aaron Ness and Matthew Strome to the Bears training camp.

Alex Alexeyev also returned to Hershey to continue his rehabilitation from shoulder surgery. Ludwig Persson, meanwhile, heads overseas to play with HockeyAllsvenskan’s BIK Karlskoga.

The Capitals also placed Michael Sgarbossa, Hunter Shepard, Riley Sutter and Mike Vecchione on waivers.

Washington’s training camp roster now sits at 40 players. The main NHL group is currently on the road for games against the Detroit Red Wings and Columbus Blue Jackets. Aliaksei Protas, Hendrix Lapierre and Vincent Iorio are notable names still at camp.
