As the Washington Capitals got ready to take on the Edmonton Oilers, Tom Wilson got quite the deal on a dog toy from a fan during the team’s pre-game skate.

Wilson spotted a fan holding a sign decorated with Capitals dog photos, asking for a puck in exchange for a dog toy. Wilson quickly accepted the 1-for-1 deal — no salary retained — and then skated over to the Capitals bench with a smile. Nic Dowd then took the toy for a test run, chomping down and taking a bite before the two shared a laugh.

There have been interesting deals for pucks this season, with some players going up against fans in rock, paper, scissors in exchange for a puck or stick. Back in January, Alex Ovechkin dealt a puck for a Twix.

Wilson and Dowd are both on pace for a career year, and both are proud dog parents. Wilson and his fiancee, Taylor Pischke, rescued a black lab mix before the pandemic. She was saved from animal cruelty in Mississippi. Dowd has a golden retriever named Arlo. Arlo turns seven in July.
