Capitals Announce Rookie Camp, Training Camp Start Dates

ARLINGTON, V.A. — The Washington Capitals will be back on the ice in mid-September, as the team will see its rookies and top players in action for rookie and training camp.

Washington will hold rookie camp from Sept. 15-19 at MedStar Capitals Iceplex. Hendrix Lapierre, Vincent Iorio, Clay Stevenson and Bear Hughes are just a few of the rookies who will be participating in the camp. The team also held rookie camp last season.

Then, on Thursday, Sept. 22, the Capitals will open training camp with their first on-ice session and media day. Before that, on Wednesday, Sept. 21, Washington’s veterans will undergo physicals and off-ice testing.

That will be the first time the Capitals will see their offseason additions together, as Dylan Strome, Connor Brown, Henrik Borgstrom, Erik Gustafsson, Gabriel Carlsson, Darcy Kuemper and Charlie Lindgren will take the ice. The Capitals also welcomed back several names, including Matt Irwin, Lucas Johansen, Brett Leason and Beck Malenstyn. Meanwhile, Justin Schultz, Johan Larsson, Dennis Cholowski, Michal Kempny, Ilya Samsonov and Vitek Vanecek left the team in the summer.

Over the course of camp, Washington will cut its roster down to 23 players and also get to experiment with different line combinations over the course of the preseason. Here is the team’s six-game slate, as well as start times and locations.

Sunday, Sept. 25 – Sabres vs. Capitals, 2 p.m. ET, Capital One Arena

Wednesday, Sept. 28 – Capitals vs. Flyers, 7 p.m. ET, Wells Fargo Center

Friday, Sept. 30 – Capitals vs. Red Wings, 7:30 p.m. ET, Little Caesars Arena

Saturday, Oct. 1 – Capitals vs. Blue Jackets, 7 p.m. ET, Nationwide Arena

Wednesday, Oct. 5 – Red Wings vs. Capitals, 7 p.m. ET, Capital One Arena

Saturday, Oct. 8 – Blue Jackets vs. Capitals, 7 p.m. ET, Capital One Arena

The Capitals open the regular season on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at home against the Boston Bruins.
