Capitals center Nicklas Backstrom celebrated another milestone on Saturday, marrying his fiancee Liza Berg in Sweden on Saturday.

The wedding had a number of festivities and guests, along with a wedding hashtag that paid tribute to his point production and historic NHL career: “#NickScoresLiza.”

Backstrom appeared to be in high spirits — and rightfully so — as he continues to recover from hip resurfacing surgery just over a month ago. Despite the complicated procedure, Backstrom is eager to return to the Capitals at some point in the 2022-23 season.

The 34-year-old also had a number of his current and former Washington teammates in attendance, including T.J. Oshie, who made quite a splash, Carl Hagelin and Andre Burakovsky. Calle Jarnkrok and other NHLers were also in attendance. Alex Ovechkin was on vacation during the ceremony and also caught up with Dmitry Orlov for his 31st birthday.

Backstrom is the Capitals’ all-time leader in assists (724) and second all-time in points (1,011). After missing the first part of the season while rehabilitating his hip, he played in 47 games this past season, picking up six goals and 25 assists. He also put up six points in six playoff games against the Florida Panthers, but his hip started to wear down again during the postseason. He then elected to undergo the surgery in Belgium. There is no official timetable for his recovery.
