The Capitals are dressing a prospect-heavy lineup vs. New Jersey.

The Washington Capitals made another roster move ahead of Tuesday’s game against the Winnipeg Jets, bringing up forward Mike Sgarbossa from the taxi squad.

Sgarbossa has laced ’em up for 10 games this season, picking up two goals and four assists. He last played on Jan. 8 against Minnesota in the team’s 3-2 shootout loss. He had also been a vital part of the Hershey squad this year, leading them in points through the first part of the season before coming up to D.C.

His best game of the season came against Winnipeg, the same team Washington is hosting Thursday, where he picked up a goal and assist.

“Everybody is available, and I think it pushes guys to have to be on point in their game, and guys that are on point will stay in the lineup and they will continue to play,” Laviolette said earlier in the season in regards to Sgarbossa. “Going back to that game in Winnipeg, he was a big reason to why we won, and I thought he played a real strong game.”

It’s unclear what the reason for the call-up is. The 29-year-old center skated as an extra at the Capitals morning skate on Tuesday. As of right now, there have been no updates or news surrounding the players who took line rushes for Tuesday’s matchup. Conor Sheary and John Carlson remain on COVID-19 protocol and T.J. Oshie remains day-to-day with a lower-body injury.

Washington is not only working through injuries and more adversity, but the team is also trying to break out of a slide that has led to five losses in six games. The Capitals now sit in a Wild Card spot after Monday’s slate of games moved Pittsburgh ahead of them in the standings.
