WASHINGTON — The Washington Capitals were back at it for an optional skate, and got some good — and bad — signs as well.

Dmitry Orlov, John Carlson and Alex Alexeyev were all on the ice for practice. However, Orlov left twice. He came back the first time but didn’t stay on after the second time. Carlson and Alexeyev skated the whole time. None of them were in non-contact jerseys, though.

Per the team, Orlov and Carlson are day-to-day with lower-body injuries. Alexeyev, who was recalled from Hershey after a long-term conditioning loan, is on the long-term injured reserve.

In addition to those three, Nicolas Aube-Kubel, Sonny Milano, Connor McMichael, Joe Snively, Charlie Lindgren, Lucas Johansen, Matt Irwin and Aliaksei Protas were all also skating. Players also got to work with skating coach Wendy Marco.

Washington faces off against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday.
