Ethen Frank was among the players to join the Washington Capitals for informal skates ahead of the season as he signed an AHL deal with the team's affiliate Hershey Bears following a standout NCAA career at Western Michigan, and he could be back in D.C. soon as Washington is reportedly expected to sign the star forward.

Per Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, there is word that Washington has interest in signing Frank and is "expected to do so." However, if for some reason the Capitals pass, other teams could go after him.

Frank has been having a stellar rookie campaign at the AHL level. Through 38 games, he has 21 goals and 16 assists for 37 points. He also stole headlines after breaking a league record at the 2023 AHL All-Star Weekend, winning the Fastest Skater Competition with a time of 12.915 seconds.

The 25-year-old is known for his speed and scoring ability. The 5-10, 185-pound forward earned a pro contract out of college after being nominated for the Hobey Baker Award in 2022. He is a right-hand shot who can play a solid game at both ends and generate offense, and he would be a solid addition as Washington will see five forwards become UFAs at the end of this season.
