ARLINGTON, V.A. — The Washington Capitals got positive news on the injury front, as Dmitry Orlov and T.J. Oshie were on the ice for practice in regular jerseys.

Orlov and Oshie, who are day-to-day with lower and upper-body injuries, were on time and in high spirits as they skated in normal jerseys. They both missed the preseason finale, but it’s a good sign for opening night.

Alex Ovechkin, meanwhile, is taking a maintenance day. He is at MedStar Capitals Iceplex but is just not taking part in the practice.

Taking all that into account, the Capitals are going to see how Orlov and Oshie feel after the skate. If not injured, the team will place Lucas Johansen, Axel Jonsson-Fjallby, Brett Leason and Henrik Borgstrom on waivers for the purpose of assignment to the AHL’s Hershey Bears.

Aliaksei Protas and Joe Snively appear to have made the team, as it looks like the plan is to run with 14 forwards and seven defensemen.

Practice, meanwhile, saw a mini scrimmage and plenty of contact.
