ARLINGTON, V.A. — Washington Capitals goaltender Charlie Lindgren is famous for his iceberg pads, but he's switching things up for the 2023 Stadium Series — and for a good reason.

The 29-year-old netminder revealed his new setup at Friday's optional skate. His pads feature the "Weagle" and Capitol building, a fresh glove and blocker with the same design incorporated.

"No icebergs," he said with a laugh, adding, "It's a similar look of Henrik Lundqvist was going to wear with the Capitals. So you know, the Bauer rep that I talked to in Minnesota, he works with Lundqvist and he said it'd be a cool little tribute to him… I think it looks unbelievable, just great design. They did a great job. So I'm pumped to wear them."

Lundqvist had inked a one-year deal with Washington back in 2020-21, but a heart condition ended his season and ultimately, led him to hang up the skates. He finished his Hall Of Fame with a 459-310-96 record, .918 save percentage and 2.43 GAA. He was also a netminder that Lindgren, who is spending his first full season in the NHL, watched and admired.

"He was certainly one of the guys that I look up to," Lindgren said. "He was a good goalie for so long, too bad kind of the way it ended, but he was one heck of a goalie. My brother [Ryan] obviously played with him for a little bit. So he's definitely one of the role models of the game."

These were going to be Lundqvist's pads with D.C.

As for the mask, he kept the iceberg design with a "Stadium Series" logo and "Lindy" on the bottom. Here's a look at the helmet:

Through his 50-game tenure so far in the Show, Lindgren has a .911 save percentage and a 46-26-18 record. He also said he's excited for the entire outdoor experience, one that he was a part of last year with the St. Louis Blues. Lindgren's also a fan of the "Weagle" on the jersey.

"Talking to the guys, everyone thing for the most part they did a great job, so fun to wear," he said. "Certainly looking forward to the whole experience, wearing the gear and it'll be a night that everyone will remember forever."
