ARLINGTON, V.A. — “Hey guys. He’s wearing shades,” Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson shows off the puppy he’s holding in one hand while walking his rescue dog, Halle, with the other.

Wilson was among several Capitals to spend Tuesday after practice with puppies for the 2023 Capitals Canine Calendar photoshoot. Washington teamed up with Wolf Trap Animal Rescue (WTAR) and Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation (MSE Foundation) for their annual calendar. Players posed with their dogs, as well as WTAR rescue dogs, for the photoshoot.

Not only were there dogs, but there were also a couple of kittens in the shoot, too.

The 2023 Caps Canine Calendars will be available later in fall, and all proceeds will benefit WTAR and MSE Foundation. Wolf Trap Animal Rescue operates a “live-saving animal rescue transport and adoption program,” relocating hundreds of homeless puppies and kittens from Mississippi and pairing them with Northern Virginia foster homes while they find their “forever homes.”

Nicklas Backstrom, Alex Ovechkin, T.J. Oshie, John Carlson, Darcy Kuemper, Charlie Lindgren, Connor McMichael, Marcus Johansson, Erik Gustafsson, Joe Snively, Lars Eller, Dmitry Orlov, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Nic Dowd, Garnet Hathaway, Dylan Strome, Connor Brown, Conor Sheary, Trevor van Riemsdyk, Nick Jensen, Martin Fehervary, Matt Irwin, Axel Jonsson-Fjallby, Aliaksei Protas and Lucas Johansen, also participated in the shoot.

Players also got to introduce their dogs to one another, as Kuemper and Lindgren finally got their dogs, Rogue and Riley, together for the first time. The players’ dogs and puppies also got to spend some time on the ice.
