How Capitals Can Punch Ticket To 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs On Off Day

The Capitals face offseason questions, from Alex Ovechkin and Evgeny Kuznetsov.

The Washington Capitals are off on Sunday, but still have the chance to punch their ticket to the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

If the Toronto Maple Leafs defeat the New York Islanders in regulation on Sunday, Washington will clinch a playoff spot, marking its eighth consecutive trip to the postseason.

The Capitals (42-23-10) sit in the second Wild Card spot with 94 points, leading the Islanders by 15 points with seven games left in the regular season. Washington moved within three points of Pittsburgh for third in the Metro with Saturday’s 8-4 win over the Canadiens.

Toronto and New York drop the puck at 7:30 p.m. ET.
