Capitals prospect Ludwig Persson

The Washington Capitals made two third-round selections in the 2022 NHL Draft, taking left wingers Alexander Sudzalev at No. 70 and Ludwig Persson at No. 85.

Suzdalev is coming off a strong season with HV 71 in the Sweden Jr. league, where he had 15 goals and 31 assists in 45 games. He was ranked No. 26 among all international skaters.

The Russian is known for his outstanding playmaking and passing ability. He takes good care of the puck and uses his speed and 6-2, 175-pound frame to his advantage. He also had great vision and is a versatile player who can make a lot happen in the offensive zone. Suzdalev can also handle the puck extremely well and has quick hands.

Suzdalev is the second Russian the team has taken in the 2022 NHL Draft, as he joins first-round pick Ivan Miroshnichenko. The capitals acquired the No. 70 pick from New Jersey as part of the Vitek Vanecek trade.

Persson also hails from the Swedish-Jr league and spent 2021-22 with Frolunda HC, recording 25 goals and 36 assists in 41 games. Among international skaters, Persson ranks 46th.

The 6-0 178-pound Swede is a talented winger with a strong wrist shot. He also knows how to get to the right areas and create space on the ice. He is outstanding on the transition, but he still has room to improve his play in his own end. Persson also adds more forward depth to the table.

Overall, the Capitals got two strong forwards who bring a lot more depth on the left wing. Washington picks again in the fifth round.
