The Washington Capitals and Philadelphia Flyers got into a scrum along the boards with eight seconds left in regulation, and it all came out of an exchange between Alex Ovechkin and Travis Konecny after Ovechkin’s second empty-netter of the night.

Ovechkin broke away with the net empty and, after appearing to look around for someone to pass to, skated it in to make it a 4-1 game. Konecny didn’t like it one bit. As Ovechkin skated by, Konecny appeared to ask “what was that?” before pushing him and engaging in some pushing and shoving.

Konecny commented on the incident postgame.

“I mean, it might have not looked as bad. I personally thought he deked it and put it on his backhand,” Konecny told reporters. “Maybe it wasn’t as bad as I thought.”

Ovechkin responded to Konecny by saying that his reaction spoke volumes about the Flyers‘ passion.

“They lost, you know? It’s whole — They have character. They have good group of guys,” Ovechkin said. Obviously frustration. It’s a game, it’s a game.”
