Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin has stood out at training camp.

Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin took a whirl on the ice prior to practice on Thursday but did not join the team for the skate. Per the team, he will not practice due to precautionary reasons (upper-body).

Ovechkin was on the ice and skated around before heading over to the bench, chatting with head coach Peter Laviolette and then heading to the dressing room and did not return.

It is unclear exactly what the upper-body ailment is for Ovechkin. He took a maintenance day on Jan. 6 and another on Tuesday. Wednesday was an off day.
