Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin

Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin possesses a number of talents. He’s the greatest goal scorer of all time and continues to hit several milestones in pursuit of the NHL’s all-time goals record; and, according to Dmitry Orlov, he also knows how to hit the high notes.

Both Orlov and Ovechkin took the ice for a charity match this past week, and in an interview with sports.ru, Orlov shined light on Ovechkin’s karaoke skills.

“I don’t sing like that. That’s probably Sasha,” Orlov said, admitting the star left wing is the better performer. “Since he constantly appears on video, he probably sings better.

“The [time] he sang “The Show Is Over” together with Sergei Fedotov became a hit. It’s time for them to go on ‘The Voice,'” Orlov said.

T.J. Oshie also affirmed on “The Rink Live” Podcast that the 36-year-old has pipes.

“I love that guy. He’s like a brother to me now,” Oshie said, adding, “For as good as he is… he’s just a big kid. Just a great teammate, kind of a joker. He’s not shy to sing Britney Spears in the back of the bus. He’s just kind of a big goof, and he’s great.”

Ovechkin’s discography also includes the 200 “Eastern Motors” jingle and a rapping cameo in Sasha Belyi’s song “Champion” back in 2012.

With regard to another area of talent, Renat Laishev, president of the “Sambo-70” Sports and Education Center, also commented on how Ovechkin would fare as a figure skater.

“Ovechkin is a great athlete, but I don’t think he could try himself in our sport,” Laishev told sports.ru with regard to Ovi swapping out his CCM Super Tacks for a pair of figure skates.

The Russian does possess a myriad of talents that go beyond his goal-scoring ability. This summer, he suited up for FC Dynamo Moscow in a professional soccer friendly and, in classic Ovechkin fashion, scored.

He also hails from a sports family. His father, Mikhail, was a pro soccer player for the same club and wore No. 3, the same number Ovechkin wore in the friendly. Also, Ovechkin’s mother, Tatyana, is a two-time Gold medalist in basketball. She is also the reason he dons No. 8.
