Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin

The Washington Capitals could get Alex Ovechkin back in the lineup as soon as Tuesday, but he will certainly miss Thursday’s tilt with the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday.

Ovechkin tested positive for COVID-19 back on Wednesday prior to Washington’s tilt with the Edmonton Oilers. As a result, he also missed the 2022 NHL All-Star Weekend, where Tom Wilson took his place.

The captain did not skate at Monday’s optional, but did undergo testing and is awaiting results, along with a couple of other players. He could still suit up on Tuesday at home against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Ovechkin is currently among the league leaders in goals (29) and points (58) through 46 games. Before missing Wednesday’s tilt, he was the only Capitals skater to dress in each game this season.
